An independent nurse injector is a clinic of one. You book, consent, chart, dispense and charge, usually between appointments and often from a rented room. The software has to do all five without turning into a second job, and it has to produce a record that would satisfy your college and your medical director if anyone ever asked.

This guide is for RNs and NPs running their own injectables practice in Canada, or about to. We build Zdrovia, so we have a stake in the answer. Everything we say about other platforms is sourced, and you should confirm prices before you sign.

What a solo injector’s software has to do

Book without you answering messages

Clients should be able to book from your live availability at any hour, get reminders automatically, and pay a deposit for new-client or long appointments. Every booking request you answer by hand between patients is attention taken away from the one in the chair.

Neurotoxin and filler consent are different documents, and photo consent is a third. The client should sign on their own phone before they arrive, and the signed copy should be filed with the version they actually saw.

Chart units and sites, not a sentence

Product, units and sites as structured fields, ideally on a face map, so at the two-week follow-up you can see exactly what you did. Our guide to what a defensible injectable record contains covers the fields colleges expect.

Trace every vial

Receive stock with lot numbers and expiry dates, and link each dispense to the patient. If a lot is flagged, you need the list of patients in minutes, not after an evening with paper charts.

Make medical director oversight a record

If you inject under a physician or nurse practitioner, the approval for each patient should live on the chart and the lot record, not in a text thread.

Zdrovia

Best for: solo and independent injectors who want everything in one place, free.

Zdrovia’s Solo plan is free forever for one practitioner, with unlimited clients and appointments. It includes online booking and reminders, treatment-specific consent sent before the visit, injectable charting on a face map, before-and-after photos stored in the chart, lot-tracked inventory, and payments to your own Stripe account at an all-in 4% + 30¢ per transaction. Patient data is stored in Canada.

Medical director approvals come with the paid plans. On Small Practice, $79 a month for up to three practitioners, an RN or NP can request approval before dispensing, the product is held until the director approves, and directors can be asked to sign any chart. It also adds the AI scribe and commissions. If you inject under a director and want that oversight on the record from day one, that’s the plan to start on. More on the solo injector page.

Aesthetic Record

Best for: injectors who want a dedicated aesthetics EMR and expect to stay small.

Aesthetic Record is a real aesthetics EMR with photo charting and consent workflows. At one user, roughly $12 to $16 a month in USD is affordable, though the one-time onboarding fee of $199 to $399 USD adds to year one, and the per-user model grows with your team. See our Aesthetic Record alternative page.

Jane App

Best for: injectors working inside an allied health clinic that already runs Jane.

Jane is Canadian and excellent at what it was built for: physio, RMT and chiro clinics. For a solo injector, the Balance plan’s 20-appointment monthly cap is tight, and the charting is general-purpose rather than built around units and sites. Compare the two in Zdrovia vs Jane.

Square Appointments

Best for: booking and payments only, if you keep records somewhere else.

Square’s point of sale is excellent and its Canadian card rates are low, but it isn’t a clinical record. Injectors who start on Square usually add a second system for charts and a third for consent. Our Square Appointments alternative page explains where the line falls.

Boulevard

Best for: injectors joining or building a busy med spa with a front desk.

Boulevard’s booking experience is the most polished in the category, but its med spa plans start at $199 USD a month, which is priced for a clinic several sizes up from a solo practice. See our Boulevard alternative page.

The short version

If you’re an independent nurse injector in Canada, start with something free that covers all five jobs, and only pay when you hire. That’s what we built Zdrovia to be. Whichever platform you trial, chart a real tox visit in it, dispense from a lot, and pull up the follow-up before you commit.
